Alternative Breaks

Each year, VCU Alternative Break (Alt Breaks) organizes service trips during school breaks that send more than one hundred VCU students to various sites around the country and beyond, amounting to more than 5,000 community service hours each year.

With Alt Breaks, you will leave behind the world of books and laboratories and enter communities grappling with issues as varied as urban poverty, racism, hunger, inadequate housing, and environmental damage. In doing so, you can contribute to the community through your hard work. Communities benefit from the actual work completed, while you gain a broader understanding of the world.

Recruitment and selection for student participation for VCU Alt Breaks start in October via an application for Spring Break and in March via an application for Summer Break.

For more information, visit our RamsConnect Alternative Breaks or email us at altbreaks@vcu.edu.
