New after hours process for University Counseling Services

Dear VCU students:

In response to student concerns, as well as the university’s commitment to transitioning our public safety model, we are pleased to announce that VCU students who are experiencing a mental health emergency after hours and on weekends no longer need to call the VCU Police in order to speak with a crisis clinician. Students can now call University Counseling Services (UCS) at (804) 828-6200, day or night, to speak with a trained professional who can offer risk assessment and crisis stabilization for students experiencing a mental health concern. By removing VCU Police from the process of reaching crisis clinicians after hours, all student calls to UCS will be answered by a mental health professional.

VCU University Counseling Services is dedicated to creating an environment that fosters student growth, development and psychological well-being through direct (and remote) clinical service, education and prevention. These services are available to all VCU students.
