VCU SafeNet Wireless
VCU Technology Services has changed the way you log in to the SafeNet Wireless wifi network. For most customers, the change will not be noticeable. Some people who use Apple devices may have to authorize a new security certificate that will be presented on screen. Those using Windows will no longer need to download a third-party tool to authenticate. Windows Mobile devices will authenticate to VCU SafeNet Wireless under this new method.
Not much if you have been signing into SafeNet Wireless already. If you have downloaded the SecureW2 client for Microsoft Windows, you can continue using it without making a change. If using an Apple iOS device, you might be presented with a certificate to be accepted. The device will present the certificate as "Not Verified." That is okay. It cannot be verified until you accept it. Just make sure the URL presented with the certificate is acs4.cns.vcu.edu, accept the certificate and sign in using your VCU eID and password.
Joining the VCU SafeNet Wireless for the first time will present a certificate warning that reads as rather benign on Apple iOS, Mac OS X and Android devices, but worded in a very dire manner for Windows clients. The key is to connect. Accept the certificate and log in using your VCU eID and password.
SafeNet Wireless is the way to get online at VCU without those bulky network cables. This service provides the VCU community with a safe, encrypted online experience that applies a higher level of security to wireless computing. But the advantages of SafeNet Wireless do not stop there. After the initial setup, you are not required to log back into the service every time you attach to the VCU SafeNet Wireless network. You will be prompted to sign back into the service if your eID password has changed.
