Professional Training

University Counseling Services (UCS) provides a one-year (12 months, 40 hours/week)  intensive post-graduate experience with the primary goal of preparing an entry-level clinical professional for licensure and practice in health service psychology.   The Advanced Mental Health Resident (AMHR) will provide 1) brief individual, couples, group, and crisis counseling, 2) outreach programming and consultation, and 3) Referral and Assessment Meetings (RAMs), walk-in services, and after-hours coverage, and will participate in weekly case disposition meetings.  Additionally, AMHR’s will receive 1.5 hours of weekly supervision with a primary supervisor, 1.5 hours of weekly group supervision, and available bi-weekly AMHR cohort supervision.  The AMHR will also participate in organizational and clinical staff meetings and other university-wide meetings as appropriate. 

Other potential opportunities for the AMHR year include:

•  Providing supervision to one doctoral level practicum student per semester

•  Developing special emphases or areas of clinical expertise (e.g., working with graduate and/or health professional students, specialization in providing training, trauma-focused therapy, etc.)

•  Teaching or co-teaching an intern training seminar

•  Participation in biweekly Trauma Supervision with staff members
