Under the mentorship of our dedicated faculty, residents produce independent research projects each year with the goal of presenting at a national meeting and the annual VCU Health Resident and Fellow Research Day. Our residency program’s comprehensive curriculum includes academic sessions and protected research time, with an emphasis on institutional review boards, data collection, analysis and presentation.

Resident Research Guidelines

  • Residents may collaborate on any individual project, but each trainee will be responsible for presenting their own project at research day.
  • Projects completed prior to residency at VCU do not fulfill the research requirements.
  • Those whose projects are accepted by the ARVO, AAO and/or ASCRS will be given time off to present at the meeting and a travel stipend.
