The Office of Space Management (OSM) is the cornerstone of the university’s space data inventory and building information. Administrators and colleges across the VCU campus footprint utilize our space data for a number of purposes. Some services include:
In addition, OSM oversees building documents related to the Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Geographic Information System (GIS) as summarized below:
OSM's archive of building documents includes all as-built drawings and specifications received from completed construction and renovation projects on campus. This amounts to a collection of more than 41,000 drawings and 2,000 specifications and maintenance manuals.
Current final building document deliverable requirements may be accessed by clicking on the "Final deliverable requirements" link to the left of this page.
Each year, OSM conducts its annual university space survey to gather information about how physical space is used in VCU facilities for a variety of tracking and reporting reasons. To learn more about the space survey, visit the space survey page.
FM:Interact provides up-to-date space data including floor plans, room numbers, departments and occupancy. It can also provide reports such as this comprehensive VCU Building List - April 2020. [PDF]
FM:Interact is only available to approved VCU administrators and staff with a VCU eID. To request access or for questions, please email Betsy Moscoso, space data analyst, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you have been granted access, you can log into FM:Interact here.
PlanAXcess is the new and re-defined record drawing archive retrieval database that replaced ePlanroom. This database provides search capabilities by building, architect, project date or floor plan, coupled with the ability to batch download documents and drawings. These capabilities are available to both VCU and non-VCU users upon receiving access. To request access, please email email@example.com with your name, VCU department or non-VCU company name, and the reason requesting access.
If you have been granted access, you can log into PlanAXcess here.
National Geographic defines GIS as "a computer system for capturing, storing, checking and displaying data related to positions on earth’s surface. GIS can show many different kinds of data on one map, such as streets, buildings, and vegetation."
OSM GIS produces maps to support the vice president for administration, Real Estate Foundation, Facilities Management and other university departments. OSM maintains GIS data for the university with information related to building foot prints, land parcels, utilities, sidewalks and other infrastructure. OSM's aims to to facilitate communication and a collaborative working relationship between Facilities Management and the academic, administrative and research communities, such as Center for Environmental Studies and the Office of Sustainability. If you have any questions or requests, please email Chris Broschart, GIS coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
As a part of the effort to rename select buidlings on the Monroe Park and MCV campuses, OSM is in the process of updating its records – including GIS maps as well as building lists in FM:Interact and PlanAXess. However, OSM is unable to change the names of these buildings in old plans and blueprints (i.e., historical documents). For more information about the building name change effort, please visit the VCU Committee on Commemoration and Memorials web page.
