Graduate Research Symposium
Each spring, the Graduate Student Association sponsors a research symposium to present graduate research work to the university and Richmond community.
The 24th Annual Graduate Research Symposium will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2021. The research symposium is a poster presentation and all students will be required to have a research poster to present. To present, you must be a current graduate student at VCU although attendance at the event is open to the public.
The event is an excellent opportunity for graduate students from all disciplines to present their original research and creative projects to faculty, staff, students, and community members. Participation in this event has nearly doubled every year and attracts not only VCU students and faculty, but local media, legislators, and respected members of the Richmond business community. As part of this event, Dr. Carol Anderson spoke to the VCU community this past October in a webinar titled “A Conversation with Carol Anderson: Voter Rights and Voter Suppression. Please view the recording of the webinar here: https://commonbook.vcu.
This year’s virtual symposium will have both synchronous and asynchronous presentation options.
Synchronous presentation option:
Synchronous presentations will occur in 10-minute increments on the morning of April 20, 2021, via ZOOM. Students selected for synchronous presentations will be notified of their presentation time. The presenter will have 8 minutes to share outcomes from their work in a live and synchronous meeting with two additional minutes for comments, and questions. These moderated synchronous presentations will be scheduled in blocks of 10-12 presentations and may be concurrent.
Asynchronous presentation option:
Please submit a poster file using the provided template, PowerPoint slides, or a video in .mp4 or .mov format. With any submission, we encourage you to use audio to record narration that discusses your work. Please see the resources below to help you do this, and reach out to our advisor, Jamie Taylor (firstname.lastname@example.org) with any questions. We will link these files to your abstract in VCU Scholars Compass.
Submit your research proposal abstracts by Friday, March 12, 2021. If your abstract is accepted, you will receive further submission instructions.
