About the position

Virginia Commonwealth University's Institute for Contemporary Art invites nominations, expressions of intent, and applications for an exceptional leader to serve as the senior curator position.  The senior curator will report to the executive director of the ICA and is an integral part of a team which provides a new environment for artists to explore the most critical issues of our time.

VCU is seeking a dynamic, visionary senior curator who will commission, develop, oversee and implement the exhibitions and programs for the ICA. The Senior Curator will be responsible for commissioning new work and working with living artists, as well as championing and stewarding projects through ideation, the full production process, and exhibition.

The senior curator will be responsible for forging and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders, board members, vendors, and ICA staff. The senior curator will support, supervise, and evaluate several staff members, which may include a curatorial assistant and interns, and interact with students, faculty, donors, volunteers, and the public.
