Sometimes the unexpected happens. When it does, VCU is prepared to keep on teaching and keep on learning. Student success remains the core of our mission, and during these unprecedented times, our goal across the university remains to help all of our students successfully achieve their academic goals.
Throughout this website, you will find resources developed to support students as they keep learning. If you cannot find an answer to your question or need, however, please use our online help forms to reach out for additional assistance.
All spring 2021 classes will begin virtually, except in instances where a student is involved in clinical and field placements, practica, co-ops, internships and other work-related experiential learning activities. This means that previously planned in-person classes and the in-person component of hybrid (blended) courses also will take place virtually. The semester start dates remain unchanged and can be found on the academic calendar.
We will continue to monitor the status of the pandemic and, if circumstances allow, we hope to start on-campus instruction on or before March 8. We are following the guidelines outlined in the VCU Return to Campus Plan - Phase III.
Since we are starting the semester virtually, some faculty may find it disruptive to transition from virtual to face-to-face, if we are able to return to on campus instruction. Schools are currently working with faculty to make any modality adjustments needed. Upon our return to on-campus learning, faculty are expected to follow the course modalities as listed in the revised and official Spring 2021 Schedule of Classes, which will be posted on January 22.
VCU supports two learning management systems (LMS), Canvas and Blackboard. Your instructor will let you know which LMS they are using for their course in the course syllabus. You can access both Canvas and Blackboard from your my.vcu.edu portal, in the General Resources section of your student tab, or via the VCU Mobile application. Make sure to check both sites for your courses!
