Our spaces

From the blog

The four-story VCU School of Nursing building, located at 1100 E. Leigh St. in Richmond, Virginia, consists of approximately 61,500 usable square feet designed to support our proud heritage and commitment to nursing as both an art and science.

Student spaces
The first floor houses classrooms and a newly-renovated student lounge, where students gather between classes to meet about class projects or have a quick bite to eat. Students can prepare their lunches in the kitchenette, which includes microwaves, a coffee pot and a refrigerator.

Just outside of the student lounge are a garden and a pavilion with a patio with tables and benches where students can gather to study or eat. Adjacent to the lounge is a quiet study area with computers, tables and comfortable chairs for students who need a quieter working environment. The second floor also includes a small student lounge and classrooms.

Faculty and staff offices
The first floor is home to the Office of Student Success and Office of Academic Programs, as well as the Heritage Room, a mini-museum which houses memorabilia and other collectibles in a rotating display of the school's history. The third floor houses faculty offices, administrative offices, and conference and work rooms in addition to a mail room, a kitchen and lounge area, and a small reception area.

The VCU School of Nursing has a 150-seat auditorium and one 100-seat, one 88-seat and three 30-seat classrooms. Classrooms are equipped with wireless microphones, HDMI inputs, high-definition cameras and Vidyo software for videoconferencing. Echo360 HD capture devices are available in five rooms for the recording of presentations, which can be posted on the Web for subsequent review. Lighting, projection, lecture capture and video camera placement are all available from a touch panel interface located at the podium.

The school also has a state-of-the-art Clinical Learning Center with classrooms, a skills lab and a simulation center that has been recognized as a Laerdal Center of Educational Excellence.

The Office of Research, the Center for Biobehavioral Clinical Research, the biobehavioral research laboratory and all other research facilities are housed on the fourth floor. Almost half of the fourth floor is dedicated to the research laboratory. All R-level (or equivalent) grant principal investigators have dedicated suites for grant personnel, secure files and equipment. All research assistants and research trainees are provided with offices.
