Some of the information collected and stored by Zoom, such as your job title or departmental affiliation, has to be entered manually by you in your Account Profile, which you can just as easily choose to leave blank and still have access to the service for all your needs.
VCU Users who are assigned to the HIPAA sub-account are subject to even less data-gathering under the terms of a Business Associates Agreement signed by VCU and Zoom. For HIPAA-covered meetings, no identifying information is collected or stored about meeting participants, including their email addresses, names, locations or IP addresses.
A Note For Students
If you are a student who has created a free "Basic' account at the Zoom company website in the past using the address email@example.com, you can upgrade to "Licensed" (aka "Pro") status by logging in at vcu.zoom.us with your eID and VCU password. You may get a message asking you to confirm a transfer to a "new" account that may offer less capabilities. This is because you will be moving from "owner" of your own account to "member" of the university-wide account. The only limitations you will experience could involve certain settings that are locked at the admin level per university policy. In all other respects you will be gaining abilities: longer meetings, the power to co-host and assign co-hosts, etc.
Please note that if you previously created a personal Zoom account using a "mymail.vcu.edu" address, this will NOT be upgraded. Instead, logging in at the VCU portal will create a new, separate account based on your eID. To access this account, you will always need to log in at the vcu.zoom.us portal.
