Research description
Dr. Bean has a dual line of research investigating pediatric obesity treatment and obesity policy. Her research focuses on children and adolescents from traditionally undeserved backgrounds and those at highest risk for obesity and cancer-related co-morbidities. Dr. Bean's research includes 1) systematic evaluation of school food policies and programs and how changes to the school environment impact students' health behaviors, and ultimately risk of obesity and related co-morbidities; and 2) family based treatment of adolescent obesity. Current NIH-funded studies include an RCT investigating the role of parents in adolescent obesity treatment, and a systematic evaluation of changes to the school food environment on students' dietary consumption patterns.
