Sameen Meshkin, a sophomore, received scholarship funding to cover the cost of tuition, fees, books and room and board up to a maximum of $7,500 per year. Meshkin, a member of the VCU Honors College, majored in biology through the College of Humanities and Sciences and music through the School of the Arts. He was in the Guaranteed Medical Acceptance Program and a recipient of VCU’s Presidential Scholarship, which covers tuition, fees and room and board.
Meshkin, who is from Portland, Ore., is a 2013 graduate of Jesuit High School. After completing his bachelor’s degree, he plans to pursue a doctoral degree in neurobiology. He intends to pursue translational research on neurodegenerative diseases to investigate the pathology associated with demyelinating conditions such as multiple sclerosis (MS). Following this, Meshkin said he would like to teach at the university level and would seek to instill in his students a passion for research.
