Policies and procedures

Checkout

The following consumers are eligible to check out library and technology lab items:

A maximum of five library and/or tech lab items may be checked out at one time. The checkout period is six weeks.

A library checkout sheet must be filled out completely before any items can be taken out of the library.

Phone and email checkouts

Consumers who cannot easily access our library and tech lab locations can choose to call or email a request to check out items and have them mailed. Items may be returned via mail at no cost to the consumer, as long as the VDOE's T/TAC at VCU pre-paid envelope is adhered to the outside of the package in which items are returned. Most library items can be mailed and should be carefully packaged.

Before returning assistive technology devices through the mail, check with a program specialist or library assistant.

Reserving items

Library items may be reserved for a maximum of five days. All checkout information should be recorded at the time of reservation. After five days, the items will be reshelved.

Renewals

All renewal requests must be approved by a program specialist or library assistant by phone, email or in person.

Returns

Consumers may return library items Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m to 4 p.m, to the Richmond location, or by appointment only at Blackstone location. Items weighting 5 pounds or less can be returned by mail to the library by requesting a pre-paid envelope. Simply attach the pre-paid envelope to the outside of the package in which items are returned. If neither of these options is possible, please call your region’s library to arrange for pickup by a staff member.

Borrower responsibility

Each borrower assumes full responsibility for all items charged to their account and for knowledge of and adherence to library policies concerning loan periods. Consistent late returns or damaged returns may result in the loss of borrowing privileges.

Thanks so much for your patronage
