IMPORTANT: Starting with the 2021-2022 award year, Selective Service registration is not required to receive financial aid. The Selective Service question and the option to register for the Selective Service will remain on the FAFSA until 2023-2024, but will not impact aid eligibility regardless of how a student responds. Effective Fall 2021, no additional action is required in respect to the Selective Service to obtain financial aid.

The information provided below is ONLY APPLICABLE to 2020-2021 and prior aid years:

If a person is required to be registered with the Selective Service System, he must have registered before he can receive financial aid. With few exceptions, all males between the ages of 18 through 25 are required to register with the Selective Service System. This includes all students with permanent resident and other eligible non-citizen statuses. Additional information is available on the Selective Service System website at
