VCU awards students on a first-come, first-served basis. There are many factors that are taken into consideration when we award students, such as:
- When the student was admitted to the university (for new students).
- If the FAFSA was received before VCU's priority deadline of February 1st (timing of FAFSA completion).
- The student's expected family contribution (EFC) / gross need for financial aid.
- Satisfactory academic progress (for continuing students).
- Timing of completion of the verification process.
- Available funding at the time of award.
If there are any outstanding requirements pending, it may impact a student’s award.
The federal government has now moved to early processing of FAFSAs available in October, so more students are submitting the FAFSA by VCU's priority date of February 1. Our state and institutional funding is limited and is awarded until exhausted.
