Clevenger invested inaugural chair

Charles V. Clevenger, M.D., Ph.D., Chair of the Department of Pathology, has been invested as the inaugural Carolyn Wingate Hyde Chair in Cancer Research.

Appointed Chair of the VCU School of Medicine Department of Pathology and Research Program Member in Cancer Cell Signaling and Cancer Molecular Genetics on July 1, 2013, Dr. Clevenger previously served as the Diana Princess of Wales Professor of Cancer Research and Leader of the Women’s Cancer Research Program of the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center at Northwestern University. An internationally recognized scholar for his research into the role of the neuroendocrine hormone prolactin plays during the pathogenesis of breast cancer, Dr. Clevenger and his lab have made fundamental insights into novel mechanisms of prolactin receptor signal transduction, translating these observations into innovative therapies targeting breast cancer.

Established by Olin Hyde in memory of Carolyn Wingate Hyde, a long-time and beloved patient resource library volunteer and Massey Advisory Board member, the Hyde Chair supports an exceptional Massey faculty member dedicated to cutting-edge cancer research. Clevenger, funded continuously by the National Institutes of Health for more than twenty years, is an internationally lauded scholar, recognized for his groundbreaking breast cancer research.
