Yes! The sole purpose of the Foreign Language Placement Test is to determine the appropriate first VCU course for those who have had previous exposure to the language. The placement test can be taken only once per language, and should be completed within approximately 30 minutes (maximum 45).
Note: If you exceed the 45-minute time frame without an accommodation letter from the VCU Student Accessibility and Educational Opportunity Office, the results will be null and void and will incur an extra two hours of testing.
Fill out and submit the Placement Test Request Form at least one week in advance of the date you wish to take the assessment. Your request will be processed and you will receive an individual email containing all pertinent information and instructions.

Arabic placements tests are offered at the beginning of each fall and spring semester. To find out the dates and times of upcoming scheduled tests and to register for a test, view the Arabic Language Placement Request Form.
Once your placement test score has been verified and processed, the score will be added to the university system on your official student record. You will then be able to register for the appropriate course level as long as seats are available.
No, the placement test is free to VCU students.
Students should take the placement test no earlier than the semester prior to the one during which they want to take a language course.

Yes, placement test results expire. They are good for one calendar year.
