Writing Center workshops

Our workshops aren’t just about writing. They’re about curiosity and imagination, using sources, expressing ideas, being creative, and thinking critically.

Led by experienced Writing Center consultants and administrators, each 50-minute session offers an opportunity to work interactively on a particular writing skill or type of writing. Students don’t need to do anything to prepare or bring anything except themselves and their interest.

Different workshops will be held throughout each semester, with the calendar available below. We also offer workshops by request, which requires the approval of the director. We require a minimum of 10 participants and a maximum of 100 for each requested session. For the 2020-21 academic year, all workshops will be held on Zoom. Each covers one writing topic. Popular past workshops include:

  • Understanding Your Writing Process
  • Writing a Successful Personal Statement
  • Structuring Your Writing for Your Audience
  • Crafting Successful Reflective Writing
  • A Framework for Writing Strong Introductions, Abstracts, and Proposals

f you would like to discuss ideas for your potential workshop, please contact Brian McTague, Writing Center Director, at bjmctague@vcu.edu. Otherwise, please request a session using the form below.
