On Monday, January 11 at 1 p.m. VCU Libraries received notification of a possible COVID-19 exposure on the second floor of Cabell Library, in the seating area overlooking the Compass. A large area of the second floor overlooking the Compass and the walkway between Hibbs and Cabell has already been blocked off and disinfected and is now reopened for use.
On Monday, December 7 at 11 a.m. VCU Libraries received notification of a possible COVID-19 exposure in the lower level of Cabell Library, in a Media Support Services staff area. The person who may have COVID-19 was present on site this morning in room B35, a staff-only space. Facilities Management has worked with Technology Services to close the appropriate portions of the spaces. They will be cleaned and disinfected, and will be available again tomorrow morning, Tuesday December 8, by 7 a.m.
On Thursday, December 3 at 5:50 p.m., VCU Libraries received notification that a person with a possible case of COVID-19 was in the glassed-in seating area outside of Cabell Library Starbucks around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2. The area of was cleared immediately and disinfected within 15 minutes of receipt of the information and is now available for use.
On Friday, November 20 at 4 p.m., VCU Libraries received notification that a person with a possible case of COVID-19 was in the glass atrium seating area outside of Cabell Library Starbucks at 10 a.m. today. The area has been cleaned and disinfected multiple times since then, both as part of the regular disinfecting and cleaning schedule as well as additional cleaning since VCU Libraries received notification. The area is currently open and available for use.
On Tuesday, November 17 at 12:15 p.m., VCU Libraries received notification that an individual with a possible case of COVID-19 was on Cabell Library's first floor Monday, November 16, around noon. All surfaces in Cabell Library are wiped down with disinfectant twice per day and students are asked to wipe down their work areas before and after use.
On Wednesday, November 11 at 4:30 p.m., VCU Libraries received notification that an individual with a possible case of COVID-19 was on Cabell Library's second floor yesterday afternoon, Tuesday, November 10. All affected surfaces have been disinfected multiple times since and are currently available for use.
On Tuesday, October 27 at 4:50 p.m., VCU Libraries received notification that a person with a possible case of COVID-19 was in one of the group study rooms on Cabell Library's second floor. The person was in the space sometime on Monday, October 26. All group study rooms have been thoroughly disinfected multiple times since, per the Libraries' normal disinfecting schedule, and all available group study rooms are open for use.
On Friday, October 23 at 10:30 a.m., VCU Libraries received notification that a person with a possible case of COVID-19 was in B-35, a space in Cabell's lower level occupied only by Technology Services Media Support Services staff. The person was in the space on Wednesday, October 21 and Thursday, October 22. The space was immediately cleaned and disinfected and was available for use by Media Support Services employees as of 11 a.m. this morning.
On Friday, October 16 at 11:35 a.m., VCU Libraries received notification that a probable case of COVID-19 had been traced back to the fourth floor of Cabell Library, sometime on Thursday, October 15. All surfaces on the fourth floor have been disinfected by Facilities Management and are open for use. A reminder to all users of VCU Libraries that they are expected to wipe down their spaces and surfaces themselves before and after use.
On Tuesday, October 13 at 11 a.m., VCU Libraries received notification that a probable case of COVID-19 had been traced back to a study room on the 4th floor, room 400K, sometime in the last 24 hours. The study room is currently blocked off for cleaning and will be reopened once disinfected.
On Monday, October 12 at 10:40 a.m., VCU Libraries received notification that a probable case of COVID-19 had been traced back to one of the tables on the north side of the third floor of Cabell Library, on the new side of the building facing Hibbs, sometime on Sunday, October 11. All of the tables in that area are currently blocked off for cleaning and will be reopened once disinfected.
On Friday, October 9 at 6 p.m., VCU Libraries received notification that a probable case of COVID-19 had been traced back to the Faculty and Graduate Student Commons on the fourth floor of Cabell Library, on Friday, October 9 sometime between 10 a.m. and noon. The space was cleaned and disinfected Friday evening and is open for use.
On Friday, October 9 at 10:15 a.m., VCU Libraries received notification that a probable case of COVID-19 had been traced back to a booth on the second floor of Cabell Library, sometime on Wednesday, October 7. All booths on the second floor have been cleaned and disinfected and are open for use.
Areas of the lower level of Cabell Library are temporarily closed due to a confirmed or suspected case of Covid-19. On Wednesday, October 7 at 3:30 p.m., VCU Libraries received notification that a probable case of COVID-19 had been traced back to Cabell B35 open office area, Cabell B35-B and the men's lower level restroom B-34 sometime on Tuesday, October 6. The areas are currently closed for cleaning and will reopen once disinfected.
The printer corral on the first floor was temporarily closed due to a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 infection. On Wednesday, October 7, VCU Libraries received notification that a probable case of COVID-19 had been traced back to the printer area on the first floor near Starbucks on Tuesday, October 6 around 2 p.m. Per our usual protocols, all of the printers, copiers, scanners, and equipment in that area were blocked off and disinfected by Cabell Library Facilities. In addition, housekeeping disinfected the surfaces and equipment again this afternoon. The area is reopened as of 1:30 p.m. today.

At 6:20 p.m today, VCU Libraries received notification that a probable case of COVID-19 had been traced back to a booth on the second floor of Cabell Library around 6 p.m. Thursday, September 30. Booths on the second floor are currently closed for cleaning and will reopen once disinfected.
An area of the second floor of Cabell Library is temporarily closed due to a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 infection. At 11:48 a.m today, VCU Libraries received notification that a probable case of COVID-19 had been traced back to the student study area in the southwest corner of the old section of Cabell Library on the second floor. The area from Room 235B to the furniture corral is currently closed for cleaning and will be reopened once disinfected.
Some spaces within Cabell Library Special Collections and Archives are temporarily closed due to a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 infection. At 4:14 p.m today, VCU Libraries received notification that a probable case of COVID-19 had been traced back to the reception room, reading room, and/or conference room of Cabell Library Special Collections and Archives between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Friday, September 25. All of these spaces are currently blocked off and will be disinfected.
A portion of study space on the lower level of Cabell Library is temporarily closed due to a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 infection. At 3:35 p.m today, VCU Libraries received notification that a student with a probable case of COVID-19 had been in this area Thursday, 9/17 within the last 24 hours. They were on the lower level, in a booth outside the Workshop, near the elevator. The area is currently blocked off and will be disinfected.
A portion of study space on the third floor of Cabell Library is temporarily closed due to a reported case of COVID-19 infection. At 2:20 p.m. today, VCU Libraries received notification that a student with a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19 had been in this area Monday, 9/14 between 6:30 and 10 p.m. They were on the third floor, in seating facing the Cathedral. The are is currently blocked off and will be disinfected.
A possible COVID-19 case has been traced to Cabell Library's Starbucks yesterday (Tuesday, 9/8) sometime between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
Starbucks had already been cleaned and disinfected overnight to the specified standards for COVID-19 exposures by the time the contact tracing process was complete this afternoon. Since it is a food service area, it receives this level of disinfection regularly. Therefore, no closures or additional cleanings are necessary.
A portion of study space on the third floor of Cabell Library was temporarily closed due to a reported case of COVID-19 infection. Seating along the south side of the building facing Floyd Avenue and the west side of the street facing Linden Avenue was blocked off and has been disinfected.
