Make use of materials, tools, and emerging technologies for hands-on exploration and participatory learning. Some equipment requires attending to become an authorized user, who may reserve makerspace equipment online. Most makerspace resources are available when The Workshop is open. The Makerspace is open to the VCU Community. Available equipment includes 3D printers, a 3D scanner, Virtual Reality systems, a Glowforge laser cutter, and several computer workstations capable of creating and editing multiple types of projects.
Assistance is generally available as needed Monday through Friday between 10am and 2pm and other times by appointment. Health Sciences Library also offers a 3D printing service — simply submit your file and we will print it for free.
The Audio Studio at the Health Sciences Library provides a quiet environment for basic audio recording with high-quality microphones. Featuring a computer workstation, audio interface, and two Rode Procaster microphones, this space is meant for one or two users to work on audio projects such as interviews, podcasts, and voice-overs for presentations.
The Audio Studio should be reserved using the online calendar. Once reserved, the studio key may be checked out from the library service desk with your VCU ID. This space is available during library hours and opens and closes 30 minutes from opening/closing time. Users may reserve the studio for up to 4 hours per day and 12 hours per week.
This is a self-service space, but some staff assistance may be possible depending on availability.
Available software: Adobe Audition, Reaper, Audacity, Powerpoint
The Multimedia Collaboration Room, in the basement, is for viewing and editing multimedia.
