Research description

The aim of my programmatic research is to develop noninvasive imaging biomarkers much like an "imaging biopsy" to characterize myocardial function and underlying tissue pathologies that may be used for: 1) Risk stratification of newly diagnosed cancer patients, 2) Surveillance of cancer therapy related cardiovascular disease in a rapidly growing population of cancer survivors, and 3) Improving identification of off target effects in treatment development and clinical trials. Marrying my training in engineering and translational sciences, this work seeks to reduce patient burden, improve patient care, and reduce costs through development and application of rapid imaging techniques that reduce scan time and tissue characterization that is free of gadolinium contrast, which aids those ineligible for gadolinium contrast receipt. This research can carry forward into a number of different clinical diseases, including heart transplantation/rejection, amyloidosis, sarcoidosis, myocardial infarction, and heart failure.
