I am involved with various projects with a focus on gynecologic cancers and cytopathology samples. I currently collaborate with Britton Trabert, Ph.D. (National Cancer Institute, on a study to characterize lipid droplet accumulation in various histologic subtypes of endometrial carcinomas. We have an established contract between the NIH and VCU, and our role at VCU involves the histopathologic aspect of the study. Other smaller studies related to gynecologic oncology involves the staining patterns of primary and metastatic ovarian high-grade serous carcinomas and the role of HER2 in carcinosarcomas. In cytopathology, I am focused on the cytopathologic diagnosis of PET-avid head and neck and thyroid nodules in the surveillance and evaluation of these cancer patients. I am also investigating the safety and efficacy of splenic fine needle aspiration procedures in our institution.
