We offer a major in Foreign Languages with a Concentration in German as well as a German minor. Our coursework focuses not only on language instruction but also literature, history and culture. Consult the major map and plan of study for further guidance.

The School of World Studies values experiential learning and provides students of German opportunities to make it real outside the classroom through study abroad and internships.

Why Study German?

German is spoken by an estimated 175 million speakers and is an official language of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. As the largest economy in Europe, Germany is an important U.S. trade partner and a major global power. Knowledge of German is useful for those employed in International and European business.

Germany and Austria also offer excellent advanced degree, post-graduate and research opportunities, particularly for STEM students.
