Marina Pugh just graduated last month with a double major in International Studies and Philosophy of Law as well as a double minor in Russian and Political Science. Her documentary “An Exploration of Russia’s Middle Class” aims to dispel common misconceptions about Russia such as “not realizing how ethnically diverse [it] is.”

Funded through a UROP grant, the documentary was filmed during her study abroad last summer. Pugh discussed her findings at the most recent Student Research Conference and VCU Undergraduate Research Conference.

Pugh came to VCU already set on her major; the School of World Studies represents “everything [she’s] wanted to study.” Growing up in a multicultural family and environment, Pugh has always been interested in working internationally. She was previously a cultural ambassador for Globe and is currently an Open Educational Resource research assistant for the Foreign Languages department.

After graduating, Pugh aims to attend law school and pursue a career promoting economic justice. The School of World Studies has helped her gain the cross-cultural and linguistic skills necessary to her professional goals.
