IMPORTANT VERIZON LOCAL DIALING CHANGES  - OCTOBER 13 AND OCTOBER 24, 2021

    1.  Beginning the evening of October 13 users within the 804 area code dialing a local Long-Distance(LD) number, an LD number within the 804 area code, will be required to dial either 9+1(804)XXX-XXXX or 9-804-XXX-XXXX in order for the call to complete.  Users will be prompted to enter their long-distance authorization code. If they do not use this format they will hear a Verizon announcement with a direction to redial.

    2. Beginning October 24, 2021, all local calls will need to be completed using the full 10 digit telephone number (area code + telephone or 1+ area code + telephone number for local long distance). The changes to local calling patterns only affect customers in the 804 and 276 area codes. Area code 434, in which CMH resides is not affected. Most other area codes in Virginia have already migrated to 10-digit local calling.

VCU Telecommunications will be making changes in the telephone system to ensure all 7 digit local numbers referenced in system programming (vectors, call menus, system speed dials, etc) will conform to the new 10 digit requirement.  End users will be responsible for updating their own autodial and personal speed dial numbers. Please refer to our  section for directions to update these numbers.

CAUTION:  Cleaning an Avaya phone display.

Do not use any liquids or powders on the phone.  Using anything other than a soft dry cloth can contaminate telephone components and cause premature failure.  If an Avaya phone is returned to Telecommunications with a damaged display and the cause is related to the above notification, your department will be charged the replacement cost of the Avaya set.

If you have questions please contact our office at 828-2227 option 2.
