      How to upload departmental pages

      Important notice:

      If your website is hosted on jupiter3.vcu.edu and you publish files to your site using an FTP client, use jupiterupload.vcu.edu as the host or hostname value in your SFTP connection settings.  Settings you used before, such as username, password and remote site/initial path can remain the same. If you ever need to reset your jupiter3 password (or set up a new account), you can do so by going to go.vcu.edu/web-jupiter-account.

      For example, if you manage www.example.vcu.edu, your connection settings should look like this:

      Host: jupiterupload.vcu.edu
      Port: 22
      Username: {your username}
      Password: {your password}
      Remote site: /www/www.example.vcu.edu/html

      If your website is hosted by jupiter.vcu.edu and you use TerminalFour (T4) to manage your site, you can safely ignore this message.

      How to use VCU's WebVPN

      To upload web pages, use a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) program, i.e. Fetch (Mac) or Filezilla (PC) in conjunction with VCU's Virtual Private Network (RamsVPN).  WebVPN technology provides secure remote access to specific servers and applications from outside of the VCU network.

      Please note: the WebVPN is not necessary for accessing VCU’s email system or Canvas.

      How to use Dreamweaver

      If you use Dreamweaver to create, manage, and upload web pages, you must enter the FTP Host (www.vcu.edu) and the Host Directory (ask for this when you request server space) in the FTP section of the Remote Info section of the Edit option. This allows you to "Get Files" and "Put Files" on the server.   You can also use the WebDAV option in the same menu.

      Users can upload or edit their website using Filezilla.

      How to view your website

      The URL address for your website is http://[dept name].vcu.edu/index.html where "[dept name]" is the name or abbreviation of your department and "index.html" is the file name of your home page.

      In order for web browsers to render HTML documents properly, the "filename" must end in ".html" (or .htm). If no filename is included, the browser will look for a file named "index.html".

      How to publish your home page

      Once you complete your website and are ready to publish, submit your URL to be included in the VCU A to Z list.
